Whitney Houston, who once reigned as the queen of pop died Saturday at the age of 48. She was found dead on the fourth floor of an upscale Beverly Hills hotel where she was to attend a pre-Grammy bash some hours later. Her voice was once described as “peerless”, garnering a legion of fans. The death of the singer with the pitch-perfect voice was the final chapter of her storied career.

Whitney Houston began singing at the age of 11. In the picture, Whitney and Jermaine Jackson sang during a rehearsal for “As the World Turns.”

Whitney’s first single, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

At the 1986 Grammy Awards, Houston was nominated for three awards: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female for “Saving All My Love for You”, and Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.

Houston played Savannah Jackson in her second film “Waiting to Exhale”.

The singer swept the 21st annual American Music Awards with seven honors on the strength of “The Bodyguard” soundtrack and “I Will Always Love you”.
