In a bid to increase fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance, the 2012 BMW 528i was outfitted with a new TwinPower Turbo 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine in place of the traditional in-line 6 this year.

Efficiency is becoming a popular word in the automotive industry these days. And Budds’ BMW Oakville is proud to say that drivers can get behind the wheel of a BMW 5 series and, while improving fuel consumption, won’t need to give up any of that yearned-for horsepower or torque. In fact, the new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine may be smaller– but it outperforms is predecessor.

Budds’ BMW Oakville, one of the GTA’s most recognized luxury car dealers offering new and pre-owned BMW, has the 2012 BMW 528i, its new engine, and the facts and figures you want to know.

About the BMW TwinPower 2.0L 4-Cylinder Engine

BMW Efficient Dynamics – less emissions, more driving pleasure – is the core philosophy incorporated in the new 2012 BMW 528i. The 4-cylinder engine consumes less, so it produces less exhaust.

A single twin-scroll turbocharger helps this engine produce 240hp at 5,000 rpm and 260lb-ft of torque at 1,250 rpm. Compared to the old 6-cylinder, the new engine peaks roughly 1,500 rpm earlier – meaning more power and torque, faster. The BMW VALVETRONIC system also helps improve efficiency, as the variable intake valve lift control keeps combustion mass inside the engine, reducing pumping losses. The turbocharger does its part by redirecting the energy of the exhaust back into the turbine blades, and produces a smooth acceleration when the hammer is dropped. An auto stop/start function has been integrated to respond in slow moving traffic or when stationary.
