As the Election Day looms nearer and nearer, more musical artists are looking toward their political views to get out more press time and promote themselves. Just like other artists who have celebrated the November election by performing some of their new material, Coldplay has joined the pack. StubHub always has your best bet for everything Coldplay as the English band keeps up their political endeavors while promoting their own.

As always, Saturday Night Live’s show was the cornerstone with which Chris Martin lead his act. During the evening performance, Martin sported a white armband complete with the Democratic presidential nominee’s name written on it and shouted out to the group during one of the set’s songs, "Barack Obama!" Martin has long been a strongly voiced political advocate, which was previously revealed during a Rolling Stone interview in June where he felt that the entire world would improve upon the election of the Illinois senator. "If Obama was to be president, it would immediately change the whole outside world’s opinion of America overnight," he told the magazine.

Continuing to use his superstardom to not only gain the public’s attention for his outspoken political views, Martin and his band have announced plans to release a new EP next month. Just days after the election, Coldplay’s will release their Jay Z collaboration, yet another avid Obama supporter, in LP form. The single, "Lost," will come as a digital download via the original version, a live version, an acoustic version and a Jay Z version. Later in the month "Prospekt’s March" EP will reveal eight new singles, including "Lost" as an addition to their "Viva la Vida" album. With a new album, a US tour and a love for political uprisings, Coldplay tickets aren’t going to be around much longer, especially after a certain upcoming Tuesday when a fatal upset could prove that Martin’s tactics only worked for his musical measures.

Either way, however, it looks like Coldplay’s hard work and strong political views do combine, as the group holds one of the highest numbers of nominations for the 2008 American Music Awards. With four nominations, the guys from England garnered the favorite band, duo or group nomination, favorite album nomination for "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," Favorite Artists for Alternative Rock Music and Artist of the Year.

Previously the underdog, Martin’s band has proven themselves since they first stepped out of their college band image and onto the mainstream circuit circa 2000. Though his stammer and gawky appearance have sideswiped any attempts to rid himself of formerly "nerd" undertone, he has proven that with a hot wife (actress Gwyneth Paltrow), two amazingly beautiful children and some hit singles, certain strikes can be overlooked. The group’s first big hit came in the form of the single "Yellow" followed by a few multi-platinum albums, Grammy Awards and international recognition for a soft rock sound that the UK was hungry form. Their first few albums did extremely well, their newest album, "Viva La Vida" was a chance for the men of Coldplay, which besides Martin include Jon Buckland on guitar, Will Champion on drums and Guy Berryman on bass, to show the world that they had something besides a simple melodramatic vision at hand. The album has successfully proven that Coldplay has a few more creative tactics up their sleeve as they continue to tour the world.
