Bass fishing is an amazing hobby that can last a lifetime. Growing up in the Midwest, I learned to fish from an early age. My dad and I frequently visited a local farm pond and tested our luck. Some of the best memories of my life come from that small farm pond.
There are a lot of things you need to know to become a good bass fisherman. First off, you need to think about what type of water you are fishing in. If you are fishing in a small farm pond, you have a lot more room for error. The lure color and time of day isn't necessarily as important. I am not exactly sure why, but I think it is because there is a lot more competition for food in a small body of water. If you are fishing in a lake, you need to really focus on the time of day and what color of lure you are using. Fishing seems so simple, but it is really a science if you want to be consistently successful.
The best artificial bait I have used for bass fishing is a plastic worm. When you are fishing with a plastic worm, you want to use a good quality fishing pole. You want to use a pole with a heavy stiffness and also a bait casting real if possible. The hook is embedded with the plastic worm, so you need a stiff rod when setting the hook to truly hook the fish. I have also found it necessary to use a larger 10" if you are trying to catch big fish. If you use too small of a worm, you will have all kinds of small fish nipping at the tail of your worm! If you choose to use a bait casting real, you will learn a lot of lesson very quickly. They require a lot of practice and patience, but in the end, you will really enjoy the performance of your real.
Like I mentioned above, bass fishing is a lot of fun. It is fun on a personal level and is also a great place to bond with people close to you in your life.
